These highly-coveted Maya Mountain cacao beans come from a network of 300+ smallholder farms in the Toledo District of Belize, the southernmost and least developed part of Belize. Farmers here receive more than 125% of the West African commodity price for their cacao making it a sustainable crop. In 2015 Maya Mountain cacao was designated Heirloom Cacao by the Heirloom Preservation Project (HCP). It also has the distinction of being one of the top twenty cacaos in the world.
We use this cacao in most of our inclusion bars as well as in the Belize single origin bar. BOHO bars made with these beans have won a dozen awards in the past three years. This bar will convince even the most skeptical that chocolate comes from a fruit with its front-and-center fruit flavors.
